O2 today exclusively unveils the Xda Zest, adding another stylish Xda to its expanding range of O2 branded handsets. Just had a tip off that the stories floating around today that The HTC Touch HD will be exclusive to Orange in the UK are wide of the mark. Our tipster who claims to have it on good authority (From HTC), tells us that the device will be released on Orange in the second half of November and end of November early December for the rest of the networks. So Orange do have an exclusive for all of a few weeks. Obviously it will be available sim free early November from the usual sources.

T he Xperia X1 has appeared on the Carphone Warehouse online store for pre-order. The surprise here is that it is on an O2 contract. It looks like it will only be available in silver but it will be free on an 18 month £45.00 contract which is very similar to the iPhone contract so not a bad deal all considering. O2 and Carphone Warehouse are both now selling the iPhone 3G as a Pay and Go handset. If you don’t want to commit to an 18 month contract you now don’t have to although the upfront prices for the handset are a bit on the high side. £349.99 for the 8 Gig and £399.99 for the 16 Gig and remember this phone will still be Sim locked to the O2 network and there is still no unlocking solution yet. O2 will be the first mobile phone operator in the UK to utilise the multi-user distributed antenna system which enables mobile phones to work underground.

O2 Wallet trial reveals 78% want to use contactless services on their mobile phone. The prospect of using your mobile phone to make purchases or pay for travel took a step forward today with the results from Europe’s largest trial of Near Field Communications (NFC) technology on a mobile phone revealing clear consumer demand for such services. The phone is available from free to £199.00 depending on what value contract you sign up for. They describe it as an upgrade to all its predecessors. O2 have just announced the availability of the iPhone 3G on it’s Pay & Go network deal from the 16th September. Pay & Go customers can now enjoy the iPhone 3G without a monthly contract. The new iPhone 3G 8GB for Pay & Go will be available for £349.99 and the 16GB version for £399.99. This also includes unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12 months after you activate your iPhone 3G. At the end of the 12 months you can continue to receive unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for just £10 per month.

Mobile service provider O2 is warning users that the iPhone 3G handset will be in short supply for some time. The company posted a notice to its site which said that the Apple handset would face shortages " for the foreseeable future." O2 said that it was receiving weekly shipments of the handsets from Apple, and would continue to do so. Still, however, the iPhone 3G is in such high demand that the device would only be sold in O2’s retail outlets.

Just got off the phone to O2 customer service who couldn’t find my order, then they found it, then they told me the iPhone was out of stock then they told me I would definitely be receiving it tomorrow. I put the phone down content as much as possible that I would be receiving the phone tomorrow only to receive a SMS message 5 minutes later telling me I would be receiving the iPhone before the 18th July as they were out of stock. My order was placed at 8.03am on Monday. O2 state that the iPhones were sold on a first come first served basis, if this is true how come people ordering hours after me now have confirmation that they will receive their iPhone tomorrow. This whole thing is a disgrace and O2 should be ashamed of the way this whole saga has been handled, Apple should reconsider this exclusive agreement as it is clear O2 are not capable of handling it properly.

O2 are now telling everyone "Thank you for your interest in iPhone 3G. We are experiencing unprecedented demand for the device and whilst we are confident that all customers who want iPhone 3G will get one by the end of this summer, initial supply is limited and will be for some weeks." O2 has blamed Apple for the "disappointing and frustrating experience" many would-be iPhone 3G owners had to put up with when the carrier began taking advance orders for the handset this week.

In an email said to have been sent to one consumer who complained about the near-collapse of O2’s ordering system, O2 Sales Director Steve Shurrock laid the blame at Apple’s door, specifically the Mac maker’s alleged inability to get sufficient stock in place to meet demand - despite O2’s requests for more.

O2 today announced that Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 3G will go on general sale from 8.02am on Friday 11 July in O2, Apple and Carphone Warehouse retail stores*. To ensure fairness, O2 will sell the device on a strictly first come, first served basis to both new and upgrading customers in all retail outlets.
