We have all read recently about Apple’s rejection of the Podcaster application because it was too similar to the core operations of the iPhone firmware, we even discussed this on the podcast, well they have now released it through the Cydia Installer application which you get if you jailbreak your iPhone. The iPhone Dev Team has just posted a video of what it claims is “the world’s first jailbroken iPhone 3G running our own software.” While true that there have already been jailbreaks for the iPhone 2.0 firmware, this latest “pwnage” represents a big step forward toward a complete solution for users wanting to use the latest iPhone without being required to join with a particular carrier, and run non-Apple-sanctioned applications on the device. Looks like we will soon see a new version of the Pwnage tool to work with the latest iPhone  2.0 software. Qik has a video showing off a demo app for the iPhone, bringing the popular video streaming service to the Apple platform. The iPhone isn’t designed to record video, but Qik has not only made it possible to record, but also stream it to their lifecasting site, where people can watch your handiwork. Much like the video apps from Sling and Flixwagon, Qik appears to be running an unofficial app on a jailbroken iPhone. The demo looks very plain, in terms of UI, but the video streams to the Qik site like any other phone client. Qik expects to get alpha versions of the software out soon.

Steve Trotto just tipped me off about this app for jailbroken iPhones and I have to say that I am pretty impressed with  it. It is nice to be able to make use of the iPhone’s screen when it is locked.
