Apple have moved swiftly to upgrade the buggy 2.0 firmware that was pre-installed on the iPhone 3G. The new update is version 2.01 and is reported to speed up the sync process, fix screen lag problems and generally make the device more stable. To update just plug your iPhone into iTunes and hit check for updates and away you go. This update is for both versions of the iPhone but as usual if your iPhone has been jailbroken do not update till you hear it is ok to do so.

Michael over at the the T4 Show has just posted another of his great video overviews of iPhone apps. This time he is taking a look at the two main social networking apps namely Facebook and Myspace. Both apps are available free from the iTunes store. You can see the video after the break.

One of the most anticipated applications for the iPhone for me is a Vo-IP application which would allow me to make calls using WiFi. Well the good news is iCall for the iPhone is coming and it will be available officially from the iTunes App Store. Not only will you be able to make calls over WiFi but also seamlessly transfer a mobile call over to VoiP which could save you a lot of minutes each month. I can see a definite change in the way the iPhone 3G will come to market in the UK. The 3G iPhone seems to be only available from O2 or The Carphone Warehouse according to Apples UK Online Store, there is no mention that you can buy it from Apple, compare this with how it is shown in the US Apple Store and you can see the difference.

Developers wishing to release software applications for the iPhone and iPod touch for free are being encouraged by Apple to charge a fee instead, according to AppleInsider.

People familiar with the iPhone Developer Program initiated in March note that companies and individuals approved for the program are being assigned a liaison, or "development partner," who serves as a resource, offering advice and gathering feedback on plans for applications that will eventually be submitted to upcoming App Store for approval.

O2 is planning to hatch a series of attractive propositions to boost 3G iPhone sales in the UK, according to Macworld UK’s sources.

Macworld sources claim the device will cost £100 and be sold with an 18-month contract, but Apple’s UK network partner may harbour deeper plans for the launch of the device. Including free upgrades, free phones for high-tariff users and pay-as-you-go deals.

So while waiting for the release of the new 3G iPhone I thought of ten things that are a must in the new version of the iPhone and here they are:-

1) Obviously 3G but for me it has to be at least 3.6mb/s HSDPA.

2) Improved camera, lets be honest the current one is awful.

3) Copy and paste, this is a huge miss by Apple.

4) MMS messaging, its been around for a while and is handy sometimes and should be on the iPhone.

5) Forwarding of SMS, again a big miss for me.

6) More Bluetooth functionality, like A2DP and ability to connect with a GPS receiver.

7) Third party apps, again this is a given.

8) Good battery life, if again its a non removable battery we need good long life from it.

9) Over the air itunes and apps downloads or what’s the point of 3G.

10) and finally…..a reasonable price and data tariff
