Steve Jobs has unveiled Apples revamped media player range for the crucial Christmas sales period and announced a major software update for the iPhone. Speaking to a packed press conference Jobs announced that the iPhone would get a major software upgrade on Friday, which he promised would deal with many of the issues plaguing the device, including reducing dropped calls, extending the battery life and making backing up to iTunes much easier.

So the iPhone 3G failed to get A2DP out of the box, well apparently according to Gizmodo you can now get a A2DP adaptor to plug into the bottom of your iPod or iPhone and bingo you have A2DP. Developers wishing to release software applications for the iPhone and iPod touch for free are being encouraged by Apple to charge a fee instead, according to AppleInsider.

People familiar with the iPhone Developer Program initiated in March note that companies and individuals approved for the program are being assigned a liaison, or "development partner," who serves as a resource, offering advice and gathering feedback on plans for applications that will eventually be submitted to upcoming App Store for approval.

StyleTap Inc. today announced plans to bring to market a version of StyleTap^® CrossPlatform for the iPhone™ and the iPod^® touch, which will instantly allow over 20,000 mobile applications to run on these popular devices. Owners of Apple devices such as iPods and iPhones may soon be able to charge them up by leaving them out in the sun.

Apple has filed a patent for a technology which would enable a layer of solar cells to be inserted under a touch-sensitive screen of the sort used in the iPhone.

The patent, should it be awarded, has the potential to make the iPhone a truly portable device, dispensing with the need for it to be connected to a power supply by wires.
