The iPhone Dev Team has just posted a video of what it claims is “the world’s first jailbroken iPhone 3G running our own software.” While true that there have already been jailbreaks for the iPhone 2.0 firmware, this latest “pwnage” represents a big step forward toward a complete solution for users wanting to use the latest iPhone without being required to join with a particular carrier, and run non-Apple-sanctioned applications on the device. I have now had the iPhone 3G for 24 hours and thought it would be a good idea to post some impressions so far. The buying experience is now over and hopefully will not be repeated but since then its all been pretty good. Unlike in the US we did not have to activate the iPhone 3G instore, all that was needed was a signature on a new or upgrade contract and a credit check. The credit check took the longest as O2’s credit check service failed before 9am but luckily as I got mine from the The Carphone Warehouse they had a back up plan so all was good. Looks like we will soon see a new version of the Pwnage tool to work with the latest iPhone  2.0 software. The guys at the iphone dev team have posted a video showing it in action and claim it will work with the latest 2.0 software. Don’t expect it this weekend but they say it will be available very soon. Wordpress have announced a native iPhone application for posting from the iPhone directly to your Wordpress blog complete with pcitures too. What is even more interesting is that it will be available soon for free in the App Store. This is great news for Wordpress bloggers. Video of it in action after the break.

Developers wishing to release software applications for the iPhone and iPod touch for free are being encouraged by Apple to charge a fee instead, according to AppleInsider.

People familiar with the iPhone Developer Program initiated in March note that companies and individuals approved for the program are being assigned a liaison, or "development partner," who serves as a resource, offering advice and gathering feedback on plans for applications that will eventually be submitted to upcoming App Store for approval.

The era of officially sanctioned iPhone applications should kick off on Monday according to Cnet.

That’s the same day Apple CEO Steve Jobs is expected to take the stage at the Moscone Center to unveil the next-generation iPhone at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference. A source at a software company that has been working on a native iPhone application tells us the company is getting ready to launch that application on Monday, which could also imply that Apple’s App Store will be up and running that day.
