O2 today exclusively unveils the Xda Zest, adding another stylish Xda to its expanding range of O2 branded handsets. We have heard rumours recently that the upcoming iPhone 2.2 firmware update would include support for podcast downloads over the air, well some leaked screenshots have surfaced which seem to confirm this and show a new tab in the App Store giving you access to podcasts. Now the bad news, no problems if you have WiFi, unlimited downloading, unfortunately over 3G is a different story and you will be limited to 10 mb files. Now how will this work, are we going to see everyone now splitting their podcasts into 10 mb segments or do Apple have a cunning plan up their sleeve, either way it is a bit disappointing. Just had a tip off that the stories floating around today that The HTC Touch HD will be exclusive to Orange in the UK are wide of the mark. Our tipster who claims to have it on good authority (From HTC), tells us that the device will be released on Orange in the second half of November and end of November early December for the rest of the networks. So Orange do have an exclusive for all of a few weeks. Obviously it will be available sim free early November from the usual sources.

T he Xperia X1 has appeared on the Carphone Warehouse online store for pre-order. The surprise here is that it is on an O2 contract. It looks like it will only be available in silver but it will be free on an 18 month £45.00 contract which is very similar to the iPhone contract so not a bad deal all considering. Here is a little phone from Asus to be released by O2 under the Xda umbrella. It’s another Windows Mobile 6.1 device however this one will have a rather attractive undercarriage. Its something of a HTC Diamond eclipsed by the HTC Touch HD in a rather boring form factor. Look for it in November.

O2 and Carphone Warehouse are both now selling the iPhone 3G as a Pay and Go handset. If you don’t want to commit to an 18 month contract you now don’t have to although the upfront prices for the handset are a bit on the high side. £349.99 for the 8 Gig and £399.99 for the 16 Gig and remember this phone will still be Sim locked to the O2 network and there is still no unlocking solution yet. O2 customers in the Glasgow Subway will soon be the first in the UK to use their mobile phones underground as part of a new ground-breaking deal. O2 will be the first mobile phone operator in the UK to utilise the multi-user distributed antenna system which enables mobile phones to work underground.

O2 Wallet trial reveals 78% want to use contactless services on their mobile phone. The prospect of using your mobile phone to make purchases or pay for travel took a step forward today with the results from Europe’s largest trial of Near Field Communications (NFC) technology on a mobile phone revealing clear consumer demand for such services. The O2 incarnation of the HTC Diamond known as the XDA Ignito is now available to order via O2’s online store. The phone is available from free to £199.00 depending on what value contract you sign up for. They describe it as an upgrade to all its predecessors. This Smart phone gives you full internet browsing with Google maps and you tube, windows mobile with Pocket Office, 4GB of internal memory, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with a 2.8 inch high resolution screen with tilt sensors and can even accommodate motion based games.You can order or take a look at it at the O2 site right here.

O2 have just announced the availability of the iPhone 3G on it’s Pay & Go network deal from the 16th September. Pay & Go customers can now enjoy the iPhone 3G without a monthly contract. The new iPhone 3G 8GB for Pay & Go will be available for £349.99 and the 16GB version for £399.99. This also includes unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12 months after you activate your iPhone 3G. At the end of the 12 months you can continue to receive unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for just £10 per month.
